Kristnihátíðarsjóður (the Icelandic Millennium Fund) was founded in 2000 to mark the millennium of Christianity in Iceland. The launch of the fund marked a turning-point in archaeology in Iceland. The Fund had a dual role: - to promote education and research on the Icelandic nation’s cultural and religious heritage, and to stimulate debate on its values, ethics, and future vision. - To provide funding for archaeological research at Iceland’s principal historical sties.
