Tvö-þúsund-og-átta / Two-Thousand-and-Eight. Vera Pálsdóttir

Wall, February 2 - May 4, 2008

Vera Pálsdóttir has worked as a photographer for over a decade in Paris, New York and Reykjavík. Her work has been published in many leading fashion magazines. She is now photographer of the magazine NÝTT LÍF.

The idea for this photo series arose when it was made known that the popular nightspot Sirkus on Klapparstígur was to close. Sirkus had gained a reputation for lively and inventive entertainment, and equally for its clientele, many of whom are artists of various kinds. The photos were taken for NÝTT LÍF: a photo essay will be published in the second issue of the magazine, along with writings about Sirkus. The magazine is due to be published on 14 February.

The photos are taken in homage to the colourful community of Sirkus. Vera Pálsdóttir has captured the guests’ original fashion sense on her camera, along with the free and spontaneous atmosphere of the nightspot. Everyone involved in the project is a Sirkus regular, and they supplied the clothes worn by the models.
